A Guide to the GMAT Focus Edition and Its Importance

What is the GMAT Focus Edition?

The GMAT Focus Edition is a computer-based admissions test for graduate management education. It lasts about 2 hours 15 minutes and contains 64 questions across three equally weighted sections: Quantitative Reasoning (21 questions, 45 minutes) covering arithmetic and algebra; Verbal Reasoning (23 questions, 45 minutes) focused on critical reasoning and reading comprehension; and Data Insights (20 questions, 45 minutes), which combines data sufficiency and multi-source, table, graphics, and two-part analysis tasks — an on-screen calculator is available in this section. The older Analytical Writing Assessment, Sentence Correction, and geometry content are not part of the Focus exam. You can choose the order of the three sections, and the exam includes limited answer review and edit opportunities per section.

Why the GMAT matters for business school

Thousands of MBA and master's programmes use the GMAT to assess readiness for quantitative coursework, analytical reading, and data-driven decision-making. Total scores are reported on a 205–805 scale (in steps of 5), with each section scored from 60 to 90. A competitive score supports scholarships and shortlisting at selective schools; many applicants combine a strong GMAT with work experience, essays, and interviews — so efficient, accurate preparation can materially improve outcomes.

How Rockford's training supports your goals

At Rockford International, we teach the structure of the Focus Edition first — timing, question families, and when to use the Data Insights calculator — then layer strategy and timed practice. You will drill high-yield quantitative and verbal skills, learn to read complex passages efficiently, and practise integrated data sets until patterns feel familiar. Flexible course lengths (2, 4, or 8 weeks) let you peak for your official test date while balancing work or university commitments.
